Handbags: From Box to Buckets

As clothes are becoming minimalistic, the handbags are getting into the maximalist phase. In terms of importance, handbags are synonymous to clothing.  For Versace’s Autumn Winter 2013 campaign, Kate Moss appeared nude apart from the three strategically placed handbags. A Handbag not only gained relevance as an object to store numerous possessions but also signified the changing position of women in the society. Earlier a woman’s role was limited to household matters and she would keep her belongings in her cupboard or small purses. But today, she is socially and financially independent; she travels and has her own personal leisure time- with so much going on in her life, she needs a bag more than a man!

Be it a handbag, sling bag, tote bag and a small backpack-a handbag are an extension of the personality of a woman.  With a lot of international and indigenous brands, there are a lot of experimentations in the handbag department. This year, tassels and fringes bag; box-shaped bags, chic sling bags, bucket bags and small backpacks are in trend.  The trends reflect the 70s era, androgyny and the cool retro days.  And here are some of the interesting, trending handbags to look forward to.
