An amoebic pahnawa- saree has transcended through the barriers of age, time and has gone through multiple experimentations. Whether tied traditionally or in a contemporary manner or even if infused with the western fashion sensibilities, a sareeis an inspirational piece of cloth and can be reinterpreted in a number of ways.
To celebrate the rich legacy of sari, Red Earth has organized, ‘The Saree Festival’ that would focus predominantly on Pan-Indian handloom idioms. The festival would comprise SareeMela, an exhibition and sale of diverse saree collections. The festival will bring together the vast richness of styles, materials, traditions, techniques, experiments, vocabularies and sensibilities attached with sarees.
Sareeka Gunijan Khana, the theoretical and performance aspect of Red Earth’s, The Saree Festival, hopes to bring various thought-process and ideas around saree. The five-day festival will aim at exploring sari through various forms such as dance, film and will also include saree styling workshop.
Dates: Wednesday 13th April to 17th April, 2016.
